(By John Hanc | Special to Newsday) – Seated in the turret of an M74 Armored Recovery Vehicle, Mark Renton turns to a visitor - crammed into a tiny seat next to him behind one of the tank's 30-caliber machine guns - and explains the steps required to start up a 26-foot-long, 56-ton vehicle built in 1954.
